The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Consultant Engineer to oversee and manage the engineering and maintenance operations across our entire portfolio of properties island-wide. This senior leadership role requires a proactive approach, exceptional technical expertise, and the ability to operate effectively with a remote work base, coupled with extensive travel to all hotel locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Oversight: Develop, implement, and monitor group-wide engineering and maintenance strategies, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent quality and efficiency across all properties.
- Asset Management: Oversee the proactive maintenance and lifecycle management of all hotel assets, including MEP systems, building structures, grounds, equipment, and utility plants (e.g., HVAC, BMS, boilers, generators).
- Budget & Cost Control: Prepare and manage capital expenditure (CapEx) and operational expenditure (OpEx) budgets for the Engineering department across the group, ensuring cost-effective maintenance and project execution.
- Team Leadership: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to property-level Chief Engineers and maintenance teams. Lead recruitment and training initiatives for the engineering staff.
- Project Management: Direct and manage large-scale renovation, upgrade, and new construction projects from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to quality, budget, and timeline standards.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all properties comply with local government regulations, safety standards, fire codes, and environmental policies. Champion energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.
- Remote Management: Effectively manage and monitor maintenance performance and reporting remotely, using digital tools and frequent communication, while providing hands-on intervention and site audits during travel.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar senior engineering or technical leadership capacity, preferably within the luxury hospitality or multi-site/group management sector.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or a related field is essential. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., Chartered Engineer) is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in a remote-based role that required significant autonomy, self-discipline, and successful management of geographically dispersed teams and assets.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Sri Lanka (up to [e.g., 50-75%]) to conduct regular site inspections, audits, and hands-on support as required.
- In-depth knowledge of maintenance planning software (CMMS), building management systems (BMS), and facility management best practices.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills in English (fluency in Sinhala/Tamil is an advantage).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proven track record of managing large budgets and capital projects.
